Hello all!
We're heading out to Oregon in August to do the Crater Lake 1/2 and marathon. Scenery looks absolutely amazing- we're so excited! The website says the altitude though ranges from 5980 to 7850 feet. (Yikes). Any tips for preparing for runs at higher altitudes? Smiley

I think there's some good advice there. Arriving 3 - 4 days before hand is a good idea. Arriving the evening before the race is not ideal. The body will need a few days to get ready, from what I have read anyway.

I don't think you have to worry about training at high altitude - just arrive there a few days in advance and you'll be fine.

That was an interesting read... sounds like acclimitization is the key- hopefully we can make it there a bit before.
A couple years ago we did the Grizzly Marathon in Choteau Montana, which is pretty high altitude.  I didn't really realize that at the time and never thought about altitude until I got into the race it wasn't long before I was literally out of breath...(though the scenery was spectacular, by the end the run itself was rather torturous). Looking back, I realize that I started the race at what was too fast and aggressive of pace for me. So, for this one, I think I will be happy to take it nice and slow and easy and enjoy.
