Not so fun. I ran the Jingle Bell run twice (16 km) as a tempo run. I wore shoes that were "fairly" new, and my legs felt a bit sore. I had run in them several times before, but this was the first time I went faster with them. The next day, I went for a 2:40 long run with Ian which was ok, didn't exactly notice any pain at that point, just some soreness and tired legs. The next day, however, I could barely walk. My achilles tendon was just very, very irritated and overworked. I rested 2 weeks and tried to run a little. No good after 8 minutes of running, pain came back. Rested another week and today I ran about 4 minutes, before I had to turn around.

It sucks! Oh well, better take a few more weeks of complete rest so it can heal up. I hope to be going again in January, so I can get in shape for Vancouver Marathon in May.

It seems to be where the calf muscle attaches to the tendon. The area is a bit tender and when I rub my fingers along there, it doesn't seem very smooth. Not sure what I can do but rest. I've been icing lots too. I think I need a couple of months by a pool with someone serving me martinis all day long... or beer would work too. Wink

So sorry to hear of this, Robert. Is this the same area and leg that gave you the achilles grief before? I surely do hope that a good rest will get you back on track. We don't have a pool handy (unless you count the icy Atlantic) and I'm not into martinis but we could serve you offerings from our local Nova Scotian micro breweries and wineries.
We couldn't help but think of the Camrose running club this last Sunday - Derryl and I donned our Santa hats and jingle bells along with the Lunenburg Striders for their annual Christmas Daddies fundraiser run.
Stay well, everyone!

i had the exact same injury in july.  just didnt get that severe.  but it cost me 2 weeks of no running at all and lots of ice and anti-inflammatory's.

Yeah, my achilles is not happy. Seems to be getting nowhere. Need to see some "experts" I guess.
